We are moving! Please help us find a new location.

Until we find a new place we cannot offer any bikes or take any back or even accept any bikes as donations. Check this page for updates.

Decatur Yellow Bikes has never had enough money to pay rent, so we always set up headquarters in space donated by a landlord who has vacant space we can use. When the landlord needs the space for something else, we move. In the past, we have found a new place before we had to move, but this time we didn't.

Features we would like include the following:

    • No rent - (we might be able to chip in for utilities)
    • Location in or near Decatur
    • Access to water and a place where bikes can be washed (traditionally an outdoor water faucet)
    • Access to electricity for plugging in power tools
    • Secure space for storing bikes and tools
    • A place to paint bikes (This is flexible. We can paint outside, build a paint booth, or use part of the space that doesn't mind turning yellow.)
    • Access to a bathroom would be nice but is not necessary.
    • Being near a MARTA station or bus route would be nice.
    • We usually are only open twice a week for two hours at a time, so we could share space with others who have space for a bunch of bikes and tools.
If you know of a space that is available but you are not sure about some of these features, please let us know and we can figure out whether it would work.

  • January 21, 2006 This day will be filled with fence building and some almost-Spring cleaning. Our new fence will hide our outdoor bikes and hopefully will include an outdoor paint booth. General cleanup of the inside and outside are also needed. Bring your yard work gloves and tools or just come ready to help out.
  • November 30, 2005 We received one large group of bikes and a couple of individual ones for a total of 30.
  • October 22, 2005 Atlanta Bicycle Campaign donated three bikes and many parts that were left over after their annual yard sale. Thank you, ABC!
  • October 9, 2005 Too wet to paint, but several bikes were worked on and at least two were picked up.
  • September 21, 2005 City of Decatur car free day celebration at the Blue Sky Concert at the Decatur square gazebo/bandstand noon till 1pm.
  • September 17, 2005 Beautiful weather for fixing, painting, and riding bikes.
  • September 10, 2005 Twenty-five adopted bikes were painted today and five were picked up. One adopted bike was exchanged for another and three bikes were donated. Most adopted bikes that only needed painting are now ready to be picked up. Any bikes that still need mechanical work will be worked on when the adopter is present and willing to help. There are about five promising bikes that have not yet been spoken for. Some are painted and all need some repair.
  • September 1, 2005 About 40 bikes were donated today by the Decatur Police. All of the adult bikes in this group were adopted and the children's bikes will be donated to Friends of Disabled Adults and Children
